If you choose the "children's items" feature while browsing the character creation screen of Starfield, you will send 500 credits to your parents at the end of each week.
Take The NAT To The Residential District
It should be self-evident since you will progress quickly in the game, but you need access to New Atlantis on Jemison before you can do this. The good news is that this is approximately 20-30 minutes into Starfield, at which point you will have the freedom to explore the entire capital of the United Colonies.
The 'NAT' is the name of the urgently needed rapid transport system in New Atlantis. While it is possible to reach a large part of the city without the NAT - but not everything, mind you! - it is significantly faster to go to the NAT terminal in the Spacedock district and select the residential district. Not to mention that it is much easier if you are initially overwhelmed by the size of this place. (Don't worry, you will soon find your way around New Atlantis.)
Ride The Elevator Up Pioneer Tower
When you exit the NAT at the residential district, conveniently enough, the Pioneer Tower is located almost exactly on your right side. It is the closest significant structure here by a considerable margin, which means that the Starfield design team had pity on those of us who want to see their parents more than once.
The ground floor of Pioneer Tower houses a trendy restaurant called "The Roost." Here you will find a few early tasks.
Take the elevator in Pioneer Tower, which only takes you to one place - your parents' apartment. Convenient! Talk to them, have some fun, and no, you won't get anything in return for now. However, your father will give you a nice early weapon at Constellation's headquarters, the Lodge.
Even more importantly, Noel occasionally receives notes from your parents at the Lodge, asking you to visit them. Go back up to Pioneer Tower again, and you will receive something nice from time to time, including a spaceship. That must be worth more than 500 credits.
