In the recently held Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct, six new enemies were unveiled that players will encounter on Mario's journey through the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario's long-awaited return to 2D platformers has already brought forth many significant reveals about the new content players can expect in the game. The new Wonder Effects lead to a variety of crazy and unexpected changes in the game levels, with new power-ups like the Bubble and the Drill giving Mario unique movement capabilities and abilities as well. The recent broadcast also highlights several of the new creatures that Mario will encounter in the game.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder appears to be a return to 2D Mario platformers after nearly a decade of absence from the genre. Many fans have already praised Wonder's unique art style as well as the creativity in various new elements, particularly the variety of effects caused by the Wonder Flowers. Wonder will also enable the return of local co-op play, allowing up to four players to have fun together, with new online features such as Live Player Shadows and Friend Races. Now, Nintendo is teasing some new enemies that Mario will encounter in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will bring a wealth of new enemies into the 2D adventure and recently showcased some of Mario's new foes in the Direct. The broadcast revealed several enemies with unique movement patterns, such as the Hoppycats, which jump when Mario jumps, and the Condarts, which fly towards Mario and latch onto the game level. Some of the enemies in Wonder will be new interpretations of classic foes, like the Melon Piranha Plants that spit seeds, and the Konks that behave like Thwomps and can be flung through the game's gel. Mumsies will need to be unraveled by the player, while Maw-Maws devour players who come too close.

In addition to the many new enemies showcased in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the latest Direct confirmed that several franchise staples will be returning in the game. Nintendo confirmed that iconic foes like Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Boos, and Lakitus will be making a comeback in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, hinting at the presence of other familiar creatures as well. The trailer also hinted at several other new enemies that will appear in Wonder, including flying creatures that devour platforms and a Hammer Brother-like enemy pushing a block.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is just one of several highly anticipated Mario titles set to be released in the near future. Nintendo has announced that the popular Super Mario RPG will finally receive a remake, scheduled for release in November. The developer has also confirmed that Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, previously exclusive to the 3DS, will be remastered for the Switch and is expected to debut in 2024. Super Mario Bros.
