The DLC of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has performance issues, which comes as no surprise to anyone

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is definitely not the most polished game that Game Freak has ever produced. In fact, the influx of performance issues in the base game led to it being regarded as the lowest-rated mainline Pokemon game, despite having one of the best stories in the series. Game Freak has occasionally released patches to improve the game, but apparently, it hasn't learned its lesson from the recently released Teal Mask DLC.

Not surprisingly, players who have entered the land of Kitakami have encountered some performance issues, with quite unpleasant framerate drops being the most common. Looking at the initial impressions of the Pokemon DLC on Twitter, it won't take long to find someone sharing a peculiar clip where they come across a framerate drop or a graphical glitch.

A particularly bad example comes from the popular Pokemon YouTuber Lewtwo, who shares some situations where the framerate drops to around 15fps while riding on Koraidon. In the first instance, Lewtwo approaches a small pond, and the game clearly struggles to handle the textures. Lewtwo's game even crashes for a few seconds before returning to the previously terrible framerate.

Another content creator, this time ScottFalco, has shared a clip of a glitch that early users of Scarlet and Violet are all too familiar with. They share a clip where they jump next to a random building, and suddenly another player nearby rapidly grows in size and transforms into a horrifying monstrosity that would make even Slender Man tremble in his boots. What makes this glitch even more bizarre is that it was quite common at the launch of the base game before being fixed but somehow managed to make its way into the DLC.

Other glitches that players encounter include the camera clipping through the ground, framerate drops in sparsely populated areas, and all the usual stuff one would expect from a modern Pokemon game these days. We will have to wait and see if Game Freak has plans to patch the DLC like they did with the base game, although it seems unlikely since the Indigo Mask DLC is set to release this winter. Given recent experiences with Game Freak, we should probably brace ourselves for it to be released in a fairly buggy state as well.
