The Elder Scrolls 6 could break with a long-standing tradition of the franchise

The Elder Scrolls 6 could bring to a close one of the longest-standing elements of The Elder Scrolls. Given the rich history already woven in the series, The Elder Scrolls 6's story can draw from a multitude of potential inspirations. It may be challenging to imagine the series without certain constants that go beyond the recurring mechanics and gameplay styles of TES. When The Elder Scrolls 6 is released, something familiar to fans may no longer be present.

Throughout the history of The Elder Scrolls, there have been many epic adventures, almost all of which took place in one location. Tamriel is the continent where The Elder Scrolls takes place, with regions such as Morrowind, Hammerfell, and Skyrim as its provinces. In addition to its long history, it also has a rich culture of mythology and legends that have led to many of the series' more dramatic quests. Although very little is known about The Elder Scrolls 6 so far, it is practically certain that players will return to Tamriel for another grand adventure.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Be the End of the Empire

Although players have not had the opportunity to explore every province of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls, they should be well acquainted with the Empire. The Tamrielic Empire is the most recent incarnation and the one that has been in power throughout the entire series. While there are other forms of authority in Tamriel, such as the Jarls of Skyrim, the Emperor is the highest power on the continent. Although the Tamrielic Empire may not always be at the forefront of the main story, its presence is nearly impossible to overlook. The Empire is as enduring as the Thieves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood.

Throughout the storyline of Skyrim, there is a possibility that players in The Elder Scrolls 6 could experience a drastic change in Tamriel. By the end of Skyrim, there is a possibility that the Empire has reached its worst state. The civil war between the Empire and the Stormcloaks could prove catastrophic if the Stormcloaks emerge victorious. To make matters worse, the Dark Brotherhood storyline in Skyrim could potentially lead to the assassination of the Emperor himself. Depending on the decisions made by the Dragonborn hero, there is a real chance that the Tamrielic Empire could end up leaderless and powerless by the conclusion of the story.

With so many issues plaguing the Tamrielic Empire after Skyrim, Bethesda could take the ambitious step of ending the Empire in The Elder Scrolls 6. Depending on the canon decisions, the Empire could easily be in a dire state, and that could be reflected in the story of TES 6. It is possible that the events could take place during the Empire's final days or that it has already collapsed by the time of the game. A Tamriel after the Empire is something that fans have not yet seen, and it could be a strong narrative incentive for The Elder Scrolls 6.

The Tamrielic Empire has been a constant fixture in The Elder Scrolls, but it might be time for a fresh start. Fans will likely see Daedric Princes in The Elder Scrolls 6, thanks to their divine status, but the Empire, while powerful, is not immortal. The downfall of the Tamrielic Empire would drastically change the series, but it could be time for such a massive departure from the status quo. The Elder Scrolls 6 could very well tell the story of what transpired in Tamriel after the Empire's demise.
