Stig Asmussen, the director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is leaving Respawn Entertainment and EA to pursue other adventures.

The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor series could continue with future sequels, but without Asmussen as one of the key figures.

Despite Asmussen's departure, Respawn Entertainment continues to work on exciting, yet unannounced projects, and there may be a potential third game in the franchise.

Director Stig Asmussen of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is leaving both Respawn Entertainment and EA to "pursue other adventures." Asmussen, an industry veteran with nearly 25 years of experience, also directed the predecessor of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Fallen Order.

The recently released sequel was a success both critically and commercially for Respawn and EA. The reviews for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor were overwhelmingly positive. The game built upon the success of Fallen Order, expanding and improving upon many aspects of what the original had to offer. However, if the series continues with future sequels, it will do so without one of the key players on the team.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg broke the news that director Stig Asmussen is leaving Respawn Entertainment and EA after achieving two major successes with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Fallen Order. EA confirmed this report and stated, "Asmussen has chosen to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures."

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Game Director Quits EA

EA claims that "experienced Respawn leadership" will take over in the absence of Asmussen. Although a new entry in the series has not been confirmed yet, a third Star Wars Jedi game wouldn't be surprising considering the tremendous success of both previous titles. The prospects for fans hoping to see more from the series are promising, as Respawn Entertainment has posted job listings for a senior game writer. Asmussen has expressed a desire to create a trilogy of games, but whether and when that happens, he will no longer be part of this franchise.

Asmussen is not only a long-time employee at EA, but the director has been active in the industry for decades and has even worked on the original God of War trilogy. However, the absence of Asmussen will provide an opportunity for others to step up if indeed a new Star Wars Jedi title is in the works. The CEO of EA claims that Respawn is working on exciting, yet unannounced projects, but it is unclear whether this indicates another entry in the Star Wars Jedi franchise.

Owners of last-generation consoles have not yet had the opportunity to play the game, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor versions for PS4 and Xbox One are currently in development. Gamers are still uncertain about when they can expect their release, as EA has not provided a release date or timeframe. In any case, the porting of the console versions for the previous generation should not hinder the development of a potential third game in the franchise. However, the team appears to be continuing to work hard on optimizing the current version of the game, as a new update was released in early September.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is currently available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
