We are soon approaching Mortal Kombat 1, which means that developer NetherRealm is already delving into the details and providing fans with a glimpse of certain game modes. "Invasions" is one of the new features being introduced in Mortal Kombat 1, a completely fresh single-player mode that functions similarly to modes in previous MK games, such as "Towers of Time" and "The Krypt."

As previously explained, Invasions will receive seasonal content throughout the lifespan of Mortal Kombat 1, with each season offering different battles and rewards that players can unlock. When one thinks of seasonal content nowadays, it is usually associated with additional monetization, as developers obviously require some extra income to sustain free additional content. However, it appears that Invasions will not have any additional monetization.

This was confirmed in the latest episode of Kombast Kast, where several developers gathered to provide us with further details on a range of features in Mortal Kombat 1, including Invasions. Towards the end of the section discussing Invasions, the lead system designer, Derek Kirtzic, was asked if fans would need to pay for Invasions in each season and if the mode would have some kind of Battle Pass. Fortunately, the answer was a clear no, as Kirtzic explained that Invasions will have "free content" and "passive reward structures" that provide you with things simply for playing.

He also confirmed that Invasions will not have any microtransactions, and the mode will not offer players the ability to purchase progress or unlock rewards. If you want to unlock something in Invasions, you will have to do it the good old-fashioned way by playing through the mode. There will also be ample incentives to do so, as Invasions will have exclusive seasonal items for specific characters, all of which can be unlocked for free just by playing the game.

Regarding the timing of when you can personally dive into the Invasions mode, Mortal Kombat will finally be released later this month, on September 19th. However, those of you who have acquired the Premium Edition or the Kollector's Edition will have the opportunity to play the game tomorrow as part of an early access bonus.

Unfortunately, you won't have any luck for now if you're planning to play with a friend on a different console. It was confirmed earlier this week that Mortal Kombat 1 will not offer cross-platform support at launch, and this feature will be introduced in a future update after the game's release. No specific timeframe was provided for this, but we can at least expect it to be available before the end of the year.
