In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are hundreds of items and materials used in various quests, recipes, armor upgrades, and more. Keeping track of all of them can be challenging, especially when tasked with finding a specific one.
The Ancient Arowana doesn't have the most diverse culinary uses, but most players will eventually need to find it to complete their Zora Armor collection. Due to its rarity, it's likely that you haven't encountered this fish yet before Lady Yona asks you to procure one. If that's the case, you're in the right place. In the following, we will explore two of the best locations to gather Ancient Arowana.
Where To Find Ancient Arowana
If you have just accepted Lady Yona's request to obtain an Ancient Arowana, there is actually a great place nearby that you can use. From Yona, where you accepted the request, or from the nearby Ihen-a Shrine, go south up the stairs. Without deviating from this path, continue all the way up to where the statue stands.
You should be able to see some Ancient Arowana swimming in this water basin. To make the collection easier, we recommend throwing a Yellow Chuchu or another electrifying object into the basin. This will immobilize (kill) the Ancient Arowana, allowing you to pick them up effortlessly.
Another great place to catch a few Ancient Arowana is the Great Sky Island at the beginning of the game. Go east from the Nachoyah Shrine in the south of the island and then glide down to the pond below. If you look at your map, the pond you're looking for is right next to the symbol of the mining cave.
Once you're here, take a moment to swim around the pond, and you should be able to catch one or two Ancient Arowana, or use the electrocution trick for faster collecting.
Ancient Arowana Uses
As mentioned above, the main use for the Ancient Arowana is to obtain the first piece of the Zora Armor. This armor piece increases your swimming speed and even allows you to swim vertically up waterfalls. This is essential for progressing in the Zora questline.
Apart from that, the Ancient Arowana can be cooked and eaten like other fish, but it doesn't have any special effects or dishes associated with it. If you have some extra Arowana after obtaining the Zora Armor, you don't need to worry about keeping them for a special recipe.
