An employee from NetherRealm Studios has revealed a hidden trick in Mortal Kombat 1 that allows players to gain additional health by assembling certain characters.
The health trick applies to both main characters and fighters in cameo roles in the game, with larger characters like Shao and Jax having increased health when used together.
Although the game is currently only available for pre-order customers, some fans are fascinated by a mysterious placeholder on the character selection screen and speculate that it could be a secret unlockable character or upcoming DLC (downloadable content).
An employee from NetherRealm Studios, the developer of Mortal Kombat 1, has revealed an unknown trick that allows players to gain additional health in the game. This previously undisclosed feature could have a significant impact on the character selection for many players and applies to both the regular characters and the cameo characters in Mortal Kombat 1.
Unexpectedly announced in May, Mortal Kombat 1 is now available in Early Access and has been delivered only to those who pre-ordered the premium or collector's edition of the game. The highly anticipated title will be fully released on September 19th. The long-standing bloody fighting game franchise offers an impressive array of characters and faster gameplay than its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11, which means players will likely need as much health as possible.
The revelation of the health trick in Mortal Kombat 1 comes from Stephanie Brownback, the lead QA analyst at NetherRealm Studios. In response to numerous online speculations about the health values of different characters, Brownback replied with the following tweet, unveiling that both main fighters and cameo fighters affect the player's overall health. She goes on to say that combining "meaty" roster characters like Shao and Jax results in a significantly increased health bar. However, size doesn't always seem to be a factor, as she responded negatively to a fan's question about whether this applies to all larger-statured characters.
Although the game may currently be available to those who pre-ordered it, Mortal Kombat 1 is missing a key feature at launch. In a recent post on X, the official Mortal Kombat account confirmed that crossplay will not be available, although the development team plans to introduce this feature in the near future. While players may currently be limited to playing online against others on their specific platform, their connections should be stable as NetherRealm previously announced that the game will utilize rollback netcode technology.
Although it's still somewhat unclear what factors determine a character's health, some fans seem to be more focused on whether Mortal Kombat 1 has a secret 24th character. Even after the game's release, there is still a mysterious placeholder on the character selection screen, featuring an empty silhouette overlaid with a plus sign. Some fans speculate that this spot is reserved for a secret unlockable character, while others view it as a placeholder for the game's upcoming Kombat Pack 1, which is rumored to include bloody superheroes like Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man, as well as returning veterans like Quan-Chi, Ermac, and Takeda.
Mortal Kombat 1 is now available in Early Access and will be released on September 19th for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
