Since its debut on October 18, 2022, almost a year has passed since the release of Marvel Snap, and this addictively simple card game has consistently gained popularity. Following the successful path of renowned card games like Gwent and Hearthstone, Marvel Snap has not only maintained its player base but also managed to expand it. The game achieves this by attracting newcomers with its highly accessible gameplay and captivating them with a gradual unveiling of its deeper layers of complexity.

While the core framework of Marvel Snap is captivating enough to keep players engaged, it is not the sole reason that fans continue to return month after month. Following the footsteps of successful live-service games like Fortnite, Marvel Snap operates on a seasonal system. This system provides players with a fresh Battle Pass every month, granting them themed cosmetic variations of cards, a selection of new cards, and numerous adjustments to maintain game balance. With each new update, Marvel Snap improves, but there is one significant final step that it still needs to take.

Marvel Snap Should Come to Consoles

For some unknown reason, it remains relatively uncommon for card games to be available on home consoles. Although they may not reach the same level of popularity as AAA first-party blockbuster releases, card games still have the potential to be immensely popular, and when they succeed, they can have a significant impact. An example of this is Hearthstone, which continues to be one of the largest mobile games, boasting over 100 million registered players and nearly 100,000 concurrent players online. However, despite its success, Hearthstone has never been released on consoles, including the portable Nintendo Switch, for reasons that remain unclear.

However, considering that games like Hearthstone and Runeterra are not available on consoles and do not appear to be arriving anytime soon, there exists an opportunity for Marvel Snap to fill that gap. Marvel Snap continues to thrive, with the PC version consistently maintaining an average of around 7000 players at any given time, as indicated by Steam Charts. This indicates a steady player base since the game's launch nearly a year ago. While specific statistics for Marvel Snap on mobile platforms are not readily accessible, it is likely that the player numbers have remained high in that realm as well. It is only logical, then, for Marvel Snap to aspire to reach the next level by bringing the game to consoles.

The main challenge Marvel Snap, and other mobile card games, face is adapting the interface and gameplay for different platforms. On PC, players can easily click and drag cards to their desired locations, and on mobile, the touch-screen interface makes the process even more straightforward. However, devising an intuitive control scheme for a card game on consoles is likely not a simple task. Nevertheless, Marvel Snap's roadmap has hinted at upcoming controller support for the PC version, indicating that a potential transition to consoles may not be as challenging in the future.
