The Teal Mask DLC in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet allows players to exploit a lucrative moneymaking system by utilizing the Marmalade Apple item.
By reselling the Marmalade Apple, players can acquire an unlimited amount of money to obtain rare items.
This exploit is unlikely to persist for long, as a patch will eventually address the issue and restore balance in the in-game economy.
With the release of the Teal Mask DLC, fans of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have received numerous new contents to explore. However, some players have already uncovered a straightforward exploit within the expansion that involves the Marmalade Apple item, enabling fans to amass wealth rapidly. Money has always been a valuable resource in Pokémon games, but Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have introduced new mechanics such as auctions, where rare items are occasionally offered at extremely high prices.
In the earliest installments of the Pokémon series, money held little significance beyond its use for purchasing items in Poké Marts and conducting transactions with dubious individuals in Pokémon Centers. However, since the original Red and Blue games, fans have been able to expend their hard-earned currency on a wider array of items, including unique outfits, Pokémon accessories, and, in some earlier games, literal games of chance. Players who prefer to best every random passerby in a Pokémon battle typically amass more than enough funds to afford a sufficient supply of basic items such as medicine and Poké Balls. Nevertheless, those aspiring to collect some of the higher-end items must possess deeper pockets.
Fortunately, players have already uncovered an oversight in the Teal Mask DLC of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, granting them the ability to accumulate an unlimited amount of money without actually doing much. A post on Reddit by the user KDavies1327 explains how this is possible, with a new item called the Marmalade Apple serving as the key to this outrageously profitable system. The Marmalade Apple is an item that can be given to the Pokémon Flapple to evolve it into Dipplin, a new form introduced with the Teal Mask DLC. However, perhaps more importantly than its intended use, is the fact that it can be resold for 50 Pokédollars more than its purchase price. This means that players can essentially print money by reselling these items.
This simple exploit certainly makes it easier for fans to capture their Pokémon in rare balls such as Love Balls or Dream Balls, which are inexplicably sold at very high prices in the market of Porto Marinada. At least players need not worry about prices escalating further, as despite several other economy-shaking exploits throughout the history of Pokémon games, fans have discovered that the financial system of the Pokémon world is somehow immune to inflation.
It's likely only a matter of time until a patch is released for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to fix this exploit and restore balance in the free market of the Pokémon world. Given this, fans who wish to take advantage of it should act swiftly.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch.
