The Sims 4 Horse Ranch - How to Get a Foal

The Sims 4: Horse Ranch offers you a multitude of opportunities to accommodate horses in your home and integrate them into your family. Those of you who have created a brand-new four-legged friend when starting your ranch may have noticed that the default age corresponds to that of an adult. This may not come as a surprise to experienced Sims players, as the default age for Sims is also young adulthood.

Having an adult horse right from the start may be preferred by most, as it provides you with the greatest array of opportunities to enjoy activities with your neighboring family members. However, fret not if you prefer to raise a horse from a foal all the way to its elder years! You have numerous options available to acquire a young foal.

How To Make A Foal In Create a Sim

The swiftest approach to bring a foal to your ranch is to create it during the household setup. Although the default age of a horse is an adult, you can modify the starting age in the identity menu.

While in Create-a-Sim mode, add a horse as a family member in the bottom left corner. Once it's loaded, click on the crystal located in the upper left corner of your screen to open the identity menu. From here, select the small, standing horse icon to transform your adult horse into a foal. By the time you embark on your new adventure, your foal will already be a member of the family.

How To Rescue A Foal

If you have already started with your household and have no interest in starting from scratch, you don't have to! Your most cost-effective option is to rescue a horse in need of a good home.

In this manner, you can choose an available horse that encompasses horses of all age groups, including foals. There are three ways to access the rescue screen.

The first option is to click on your mobile phone in the bottom left corner, select "Home," and then choose "Call Ranch Animal Adoption." This will bring up a menu with the option of "Horse Rescue."

The second way to access this menu is by clicking on the ranch caretaker on your ranch, if you have one. From here, you can select "Call Ranch Animal Adoption" and choose "Horse Rescue."

When you are in the rescue menu, hover the cursor over a horse to see its age, gender, and characteristics. This process is the same when clicking on a horse bed, but using this method will also assign the new horse to the bed you have selected.

Rescuing a horse will only cost you 250 Simoleons, but remember to have patience with your rescued horse, as it may have traits that make it more challenging to raise.

How To Purchase a Foal

If you prefer to start with a horse from the beginning that may be easier to raise and are willing to spend a bit more money, you can purchase a horse for 1000 Simoleons and choose a foal as your selected horse. You can buy a horse by following the same steps as rescuing a horse.

Your two options are to open your mobile phone in the bottom left corner or click on the ranch caretaker on your ranch. In your mobile phone, select "Home" and "Call Ranch Animal Adoption." In the menus of the ranch caretaker or the horse bed, simply choose "Call Ranch Animal Adoption."

Once you are in the animal adoption menu, select "Buy Horse." Similar to rescuing a horse, you can view information about each horse by hovering the cursor over it.

How To Breed Horses

Your final option to obtain a foal is by breeding two adult horses. To access this option, click on one of your adult horses, select "More Choices," "Friendly," and "Encourage to." If the option "Encourage to Breed" is available here, choose it and select another horse you wish to breed with. The option will not be available if you have recently selected the option or if your horse is already pregnant.

Hearts may appear above the heads of the two horses. Upon a successful breeding attempt, you will receive a purple notification stating that your horse is pregnant and will give birth in 3-4 in-game hours. After approximately 30 in-game hours, you will receive another notification indicating that your horse is in labor. You will have the opportunity to name the new foal, and it will join your household as a family member.
