The Sims 4: Together Growing introduces a multitude of new events related to your Sim's profession and career. Instead of simply going to work every day, improving performance, and returning home, there are several variables with which you can engage.
In this guide, we will cover all the work-related events you can find in the "Together Growing" expansion. Please note that you will need these contents in order to experience these job-related events. This includes revisions, competition, and dismissals. Let's first take a look at random performance evaluations that can occur in the base game.
Job Performance Checks
While your Sim is at work, you may potentially notice a pop-up that presents you with various options to choose from based on a work situation.
Unfortunately, these are entirely random. There is no specific order in which the evaluations occur, and the response will also be random each time. For instance, the same pop-up may appear twice, with each response potentially being different, yet considered 'correct'.
Overall, you don't need to worry if you answer them incorrectly. Although they can lower or increase your job performance, it's not enough to make a noticeable difference.
Work Rivals
Now let's move on to new content from "Getting Together." Work rivals are essentially individuals who hinder your path to success in your career.
The rivals are selected randomly; there is nothing you can do to prevent a rivalry. While you are at work, you will receive a notification that a work rival has appeared. The rival will be displayed in the career panel menu, right above the tasks you need to complete for a promotion.
How To Deal With Your Rival
Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to deal with your work rival. Below, you can see the two options you can choose from while at work. You can find these in the work menu, which you can open by clicking on your Sim's icon while they are working.
Action |
Outcome |
---|---|
Sabotage Work Rival |
Lower Work Performance Increase Fun Need Chance to end Rivalry |
Befriend Work Rival |
Lower Work Performance Increase Social Need Chance to end Rivalry |
These options are not guaranteed; there is a possibility that they may not end the rivalry. If that happens, try again the next day.
If you manage to build a friendship with your work rival outside of work, the rivalry will also disappear. This can be achieved by visiting their home, inviting them over (if they accept the invitation), and essentially forming a friendship in the same way you would normally do.
Burnout
Burnout occurs when your Sim works hard and repeatedly performs the same task over an extended period of time. This can also happen with other activities, such as prolonged skill-building.
Work burnout occurs when you choose "Work Hard" too frequently in succession without taking breaks or having a day off. If you experience work burnout, it will be indicated in the career panel, and a large message labeled "Burnout Experience" will appear.
With burnout come negative mood modifiers that can affect your job performance and cause dissatisfaction. When burnout starts, you will experience the mood modifier "Mental Fog," which can eventually develop into the mood modifier "Thought Block."
How To Remove Burnout
"Thought Block" essentially means that your Sim is unable to properly utilize their brain, leading to increased tension. To get rid of burnout, try taking a day off. If you have to work, you can also take it easy there as well.
Additionally, we recommend engaging in some new tasks that your Sim wouldn't normally do. For example, if your Sim isn't artistic, give painting a try! You could also have your Sim participate in a relaxing activity, such as visiting a spa.
Do not ignore a burnout! This can significantly lower your Sim's job performance and make them feel tense, angry, or uncomfortable.
Layoffs
Lastly, we have dismissals. These are not as common as the other two events, but they can still occur.
Instead of being immediately fired, you will receive a notification about a "pending dismissal," indicating that your Sim is at risk of being fired. Once this happens, you will receive the mood modifier "Impending Dismissal," which makes Sims more tense.
It is important to note that impending dismissals are completely random. There is nothing you can do to prevent them from occurring, but you can take actions to avoid getting fired.
How To Prevent Being Laid Off
First and foremost, it is important not to let the tension caused by the "Impending Dismissal" mood modifier control your Sim. Try engaging in more relaxing activities outside of work, such as pursuing a hobby that your Sim enjoys.
