The Spider-Man 2 game provides an update on Gwen Stacy

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will not include Gwen Stacy, one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. Spider-Man 2 continues the story of Insomniac's Spider-Man games, featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as a duo trying to protect New York City from Spider-Man's infamous villains.

This time, Spider-Man's main enemies seem to be the Lizard Man, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom. It is unclear how exactly Venom will come into play in Spider-Man 2, but it will happen some time after Peter Parker removes his symbiote suit. Naturally, Peter and Miles also have a life outside of fighting crime and spend time with their friends like Ganke Lee and Peter's love interest, Mary Jane Watson.

It will be interesting to see how the relationship between Peter and MJ develops in Spider-Man 2, especially when Peter is under the influence of the symbiote suit. However, some fans might be curious if Peter's other love interests might make an appearance in the game, such as Gwen Stacy. TheGamer asked the narrative director of Spider-Man 2, Jan Paquette, about the possibility of Gwen Stacy appearing in the sequel. Unfortunately, Gwen Stacy will not be in Spider-Man 2. "Gwen is not part of the story we want to tell," said Paquette.

Gwen Stacy is best known for dramatically dying at the hands of the Green Goblin, which is considered a landmark moment not only in the Spider-Man comics but also in the superhero genre as a whole. In recent years, Stacy herself has actually become a superhero and is affectionately referred to by the community as Spider-Gwen. This version of the character has gained particular popularity following the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where she plays a prominent role. It is expected that Stacy will also have a significant role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

But even though Stacy doesn't appear in Spider-Man 2, that doesn't mean she won't be mentioned in any way. The Spider-Man games are full of Easter eggs, so fans might discover a clue that alludes to Gwen Stacy in the game. While there is no guarantee that Gwen Stacy will be mentioned at all in the game, Spider-Man fans should definitely keep their eyes open while exploring the open world of New York City.

Fortunately, the wait to do just that is almost over. The release date of Spider-Man 2 is approaching, and although Gwen Stacy is not included, the game should still be filled with exciting Spider-Man characters to interact with.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be released exclusively for PS5 on October 20th.
