Mario has been having quite a splendid year so far, with a successful film under his belt and two major video games on the horizon. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the plumber's first grand adventure that will soon grace us, and tomorrow, an independent Nintendo Direct will take place, where we will gain a more profound understanding of the game in all its magnificence. However, it appears that Nintendo could make another announcement, as a Mario-themed Switch OLED console may have been leaked prior to the show.
First reported by VGC, a new Nintendo Switch OLED model called the "Mario Red Edition" has been unveiled by the esteemed insider billbil-kun, whom you may recognize as the individual who has been leaking PlayStation Plus titles online for years, well before they become available on the service. According to them, this Mario Red Edition OLED Switch will feature two red Joy-Cons and a red docking station, but there will be no additional Mario features or trademarks.
Unfortunately, we do not have an exact release date for the console yet, but according to billbil-kun's report, "it is certain that it will be released before October." This makes sense considering that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to be released on October 20th of this year, and Nintendo would surely want to introduce a new Mario-themed console just before the launch of their next major title. It is quite likely that we will receive an announcement tomorrow during the Direct, similar to the unveiling of the Zelda-themed Switch OLED during a Tears of the Kingdom trailer.
What else will be revealed during the show is not entirely clear yet, but it appears quite certain that we will be treated to a proper gameplay demonstration since we have only seen brief edited clips thus far. The last trailer showcased some new additions to the series, including Daisy's first appearance in a main title and Mario's ability to transform into an elephant.
We can also look forward to the remake of Super Mario RPG, which will be released later this year, although we will likely have to wait until Nintendo has sold us Super Mario Bros. Wonder before we get to see more of it. However, we do know that it will be released on November 17th of this year, so we won't have to wait too long to get our hands on it.
