The highly anticipated role-playing game, Baldur's Gate 3, will be coming to Xbox between September and November, offering Xbox fans the opportunity to experience the game.
Despite efforts to implement split-screen co-op on the Xbox Series S, it was not possible to achieve this and release the game within this year. As a result, the game was launched on the Xbox Series S without split-screen support.
The timing of the game's release on Xbox will be crucial, as October is already crowded with important titles. However, November could be a more optimal month for the game's launch, allowing it to stand out from the competition.
Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 has provided a timeframe in which fans can expect the massive RPG on Xbox. Baldur's Gate 3 is not only the most acclaimed RPG of the year 2023 so far, but it also stands alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as the highest-rated game of the year on Metacritic, surpassing titles like Metroid Prime Remastered, Resident Evil 4, Diablo 4, and Street Fighter 6. Baldur's Gate 3 has been eagerly anticipated and long-awaited, but few expected it to have such a tremendous impact on the already rich gaming landscape of 2023.
Originally, Baldur's Gate 3 was slated for release in 2023 on PC and PS5, with the Xbox consoles being skipped due to the technical limitations of the Xbox Series S, which couldn't run the game in split-screen co-op mode. Since the start of the Xbox Series X|S generation, Xbox had promised and delivered that all games between the Series X and its less powerful sibling console, the Series S, would offer the same features. Additionally, it was a requirement from Larian Studios that Baldur's Gate 3 supports split-screen co-op on all platforms where it is released. With the Xbox Series S holding back the Xbox launch of Baldur's Gate 3, Xbox worked closely with Larian to try and get the split-screen co-op mode running on the Series S.
It appears that these efforts were not successful, as Xbox and Larian have agreed to release Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox without split-screen support on the Series S before the end of 2023. Now, Xbox fans have a better idea of when the highest-rated RPG of the year 2023 will be coming to the console. Swen Vincke, the director of Larian Studios, stated to IGN that Baldur's Gate 3 is aiming for a release on Xbox between September and November.
When is Baldur's Gate 3 Coming to Xbox?
- September - November
Since Baldur's Gate 3 is launching on the PS5 on September 6th, it can be assumed that the RPG will not be released on Xbox until later in September at the earliest. Additionally, it seems that there is hardly any room in October, as several big titles such as Assassin's Creed Mirage, Lords of the Fallen, Alan Wake 2, Forza Motorsport, and many others are being released for Xbox. If Baldur's Gate 3 were to be released on Xbox in October, it would likely steal the show as the highest-rated game of the year, overshadowing many of these other titles. November is slightly less crowded and therefore a more optimal release month, during which Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Persona 5 Tactica are also being released.
If Baldur's Gate 3 is indeed ready for its release on Xbox within the next few months, Larian should soon set a firm date. However, given the crowded remainder of 2023, it will be interesting to see where exactly it positions itself amidst the multitude of big games this fall and whether its reputation will help attract another large audience on Xbox. Xbox fans who have eagerly awaited the highly acclaimed role-playing game won't have to wait long to find out.
Baldur's Gate 3 is now available on PC, is coming to the PS5 on September 6th, and is currently in development for the Xbox Series X|S.
