Ubisoft has casually confirmed through a press release that The Division 3 is in development at Massive Entertainment, with Julian Gerighty serving as the executive producer for the series.
The fans of The Division have patiently awaited information about The Division: Heartlands, an upcoming free-to-play PvEvP spin-off. While we continue to wait for further details, we do know at least that a third main title will soon be in development at Massive Entertainment. However, it may still take some time before it is released, as the studio is currently working on multiple different titles simultaneously.
The announcement was made rather casually through a press release and a news article on Ubisoft's website. The article, primarily focusing on Gerighty's promotion to executive producer of the series, mentions in several instances that The Division 3 will enter development soon. However, it appears to be waiting for the release of Star Wars Outlaws before becoming the studio's next main focus.
The news article reads: "After joining the team at Massive Entertainment - a Ubisoft studio - and releasing the original game in 2016, he transitioned as the Creative Director for Tom Clancy's The Division 2, where he and his team created a new adventure in the summer streets of Washington, D.C. Now, he sets his sights on Tom Clancy's The Division 3, as well as a variety of other projects in The Division universe, including the mobile game Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence and the survival-action shooter Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland."
In another part of the news article, it is confirmed that Massive Entertainment will take over the development of The Division 3. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, as they have already developed the first two games in the series. However, considering how busy the team has been with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, and with Heartland being developed by Red Storm Entertainment, it is still nice to see this confirmation.
Regarding Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft confirmed in the news article that Gerighty, who serves as the Creative Director for the game, will continue working on the project to ensure that it "aligns with the intended creative vision and provides players with a great experience." Star Wars Outlaws is expected to be released sometime in 2024. So, it seems that there is still some time before The Division 3 actually comes out. However, fans who have been waiting for news about the series can at least be reassured that it will happen and that Gerighty is behind it.
