Xbox Game Pass adds former PlayStation console exclusivity

The latest update of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service has added Solar Ash to the lineup. Instead of being added all at once, new Game Pass titles are distributed throughout the month. This allows Xbox Game Pass subscribers to have a continuous stream of new games to look forward to from week to week.

So far in September 2023, several new Xbox Game Pass games have already been added, including the biggest new Game Pass game of the entire year, Starfield. There is much more to look forward to this month for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, and while fans await these new additions, they can check out the recently added game, Solar Ash.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Solar Ash was initially released exclusively for the PlayStation console in 2021. It takes place in the same universe as Hyper Light Drifter and is a 3D platformer with an impressive art style that translates the unique aesthetic of Hyper Light Drifter into the three-dimensional space. Solar Ash received mostly positive reviews at the time of its original release, making it a solid addition to the Xbox Game Pass lineup. And while the game was previously available for PC, PS4, and PS5, its debut on Xbox as a Game Pass game argues that it is a day-one release.

The inclusion of Solar Ash in the Xbox Game Pass lineup comes just one day after another acclaimed indie game was made available through the popular subscription service. While Solar Ash was previously confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass, the recently added Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition was unexpectedly added to the Game Pass.

Solar Ash and Spiritfarer are two Xbox Game Pass games that both existed in some form before being added to the service. This might make them slightly less exciting for subscribers compared to true day-one games. However, fortunately, there are still some notable day-one games coming soon to the Xbox Game Pass. Soulslike game Lies of P is coming to the Xbox Game Pass on September 19th, while the party game Party Animals will be available on September 20th. The cooperative heist game Payday 3 will be available on September 23rd in the Xbox Game Pass. And finally, Cocoon is coming to the Xbox Game Pass on September 29th.

It is possible that there will be more new Xbox Game Pass games in September 2023, but if so, they have not been announced yet. Fans should also keep in mind that some games will be leaving the Xbox Game Pass soon.
