Microsoft has introduced an updated Xbox Series S with 1 TB of storage capacity, which is available for purchase directly from Microsoft.
The Xbox Series S is a more affordable digital alternative to the Xbox Series X, focusing on gaming with a resolution of 1080p and 1440p.
With the release of titles like Starfield, the Xbox Game Pass becomes even more lucrative as it provides a more affordable way to access these games.
Microsoft has introduced an updated Xbox Series S console that has doubled its system storage from 512 GB to 1 TB. The new Xbox Series S is available in Carbon Black and is being released ahead of highly anticipated titles like Starfield and Forza Motorsport. At the time of writing, the new Xbox Series S is only available directly from Microsoft, but other retailers will sell the console at a later time.
At the Xbox Games Showcase in July, Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox Series S console. Offering the same features as the original 512GB version, the updated Xbox Series S promises to be a digital and affordable alternative to the Xbox Series X. However, there are some technical compromises due to the price difference, as the Xbox Series S focuses more on gaming in 1080p and 1440p compared to its counterpart's emphasis on 4K. Users can, however, add a subscription to the Xbox Game Pass to fully appreciate the value of the Xbox Series S as a smaller and more affordable console that provides high graphics performance in a compact form factor.
The 1TB Xbox Series S is now available directly through the Microsoft Store for $349. Made from recycled plastic (PCR resin) derived from post-consumer materials, the 1TB Xbox Series S console features the same matte black finish as the current Xbox Series X console. While the 512GB Xbox Series S is still available for $299, users can double the total system storage for an additional $50. Included in the package are the Xbox Series S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller with two AA batteries, and all necessary cables. However, users who are starting up the Xbox Series S for the first time will need to update the Xbox operating system to the latest version to get the most out of the new console. In a recent Xbox firmware update, Microsoft has improved system stability throughout the Xbox environment.
The release of the 1TB Xbox Series S comes just one day after the early access launch of Starfield. With the planned general release on September 6th, Starfield offers an experience on par with Skyrim and could be one of Bethesda's most talked-about releases. Despite the price tag of $69.99 for Starfield, Xbox and PC players can take advantage of the Game Pass to try it at a more affordable price.
In addition to Starfield, titles like Sea of Stars and the Persona series have made the September lineup for the Xbox Game Pass one of the most profitable yet. It remains to be seen what short-term impact the new Xbox Series S console will have.
