Nintendo surprised Zelda fans by adding an underground map called "The Depths" in Tears of the Kingdom.
Players can enter The Depths by leaping into open chasms scattered throughout Hyrule, where they will encounter various surprises and hidden strongholds.
A Reddit user captured a surprising moment when their character, Link, landed on the dragon Naydra as it was emerging from The Depths.
An adventurous player of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is shocked when they encounter the biggest possible surprise after falling into a gorge. When it comes to surprises in Tears of the Kingdom, what this player discovers in the gorge is enough to astonish most Zelda fans.
When Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would be using the same map as Breath of the Wild, many fans were skeptical that there wouldn't be enough to do. However, when the game was released, fans were pleasantly surprised to find that an underground map called The Depths had been added beneath Hyrule, a feature that Nintendo had kept secret. To enter the underground area of the game, players can jump into one of the many open chasms scattered around Hyrule. Once inside, players will encounter many surprising encounters, including creatures shrouded in darkness, hidden strongholds of the Yiga Clan, and a lot of darkness.
The Reddit user RoyalGuardLink has posted a video of a very surprising moment that occurred on the way to the Depths in Tears of the Kingdom. In the clip, you can see Link gliding over the gorge in one of the snow-covered regions of Hyrule using a paraglider. As Link descends into the hole, the name of the gorge appears on the screen: Naydra Snowfield Gorge. Suddenly, Naydra emerges from the darkness itself, and Link lands directly on its nose. The giant dragon barely blinks as it continues its journey from the depths.
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Naydra was one of the three dragons that players could encounter while flying over Hyrule. The dragons have also returned in Tears of the Kingdom, but this time players can easily access them thanks to the various types of flying apparatus that can be crafted from Zonai devices in the game. The dragons in Tears of the Kingdom are not limited to the sky alone, as all three main dragons can enter and exit the depths at any time. RoyalGuardLink landed on Naydra just as she emerged from the gorge.
As rare as it is to land on a dragon emerging from the depths in Tears of the Kingdom, there have been some Reddit users claiming that the same thing happened to them. One comment even mentioned seeing a dragon in the game for the first time as they were leaping past it and into a gorge. It's moments like these that make Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom one of the more unforgettable games in the series.
